I was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan and graduated from Mona Shores High School. I grew up the oldest of four sons in a family of six. I moved to East Lansing in 1997 as a college freshman and have lived in the area ever since. While attending Michigan State, I played trombone in both the marching band and the basketball and hockey pep band. My wife Shawn and I live in Haslett with our fifteen-year-old son Christian and our two daughters, Chloe (12) and Claire (9).
I received a Bachelor of Arts, With Honor, from Michigan State University in May 2001. With an Elementary Education major and minors in mathematics and theater, I am certified to teach in K-5 classrooms, as well as middle school math and theatre classes. I have successfully completed the certification tests given by the State of Michigan in the areas of mathematics and theater. Furthermore, I completed my Masters degree in Curriculum and Teaching in the summer of 2006, also at Michigan State University. This is my seventeenth year teaching in St. Johns Public Schools and my fourteenth year here at the middle school.
